What to give
By Nina L.
Thursday 3 days before father's day
“Mom” 5 year old Suzie asked. “What should I
give God for father’s day?”
“What do you mean?” Mom asked. “Well” Said
Suzie. “Miss. Julie my Sunday school teacher said that I should give God a gift
for father’s day sense he is my heavenly father.” “I’m giving Dad a
picture I made in school of me and him.” “And I thought I would make one for
God but I don’t know how to give it to him.” Mom smiled. “Yes that might be a
little difficult.” “So Mom” Suzie said. “Do you have any ideas?” Just
then Suzie’s older brother Jake walked in. “What are you giving God for
father’s day?” Suzie asked Jake. “What?” Jake asked. “Yeesh” Replied Suzie. “I
said WHAT ARE YOU GIVING GOD FOR FATHER”S DAY?!?!?!?!?” “Suzie!!!” Mom said.
“No yelling!!” “Sorry Mom” Suzie said. “But Jake didn’t hear me I think
he needs a hearing aid.” “I don’t need a hearing aid Suzie.” Jake said. “Then
why did you say what?” “Because I didn’t understand the question.” Ohhhh…
Sorry” Suzie replied. “It’s fine” said Jake.
“So….” Suzie said. “What I meant was- are you
giving God anything for father’s day?”
“UH” Replied Jake. “I don’t know” “Are you
giving your father anything for father’s day Jake?” Asked Mom. “Yes I-“
“Oh and” interrupted mom. “You are not giving God anything for father’s
day?” “Well….” Stammered Jake. “I uh… um..” Suzie and Mom looked at him. “Well
I am giving Dad a gift card to his favorite restaurant I just haven’t bought it
yet.” “You need to do that soon” Said Mom. Father’s day is in 3 days.” “OK”
replied Jake. “May I go play with my friends?” Jake asked. “In a minute” Mom
replied.
“Why?” whined Jake. “Because” Said Mom.
“You need to buy your Dad his father’s day present.” “I’ll do it tomorrow.”
Jake replied. “No now” “Fine” “Wait Jake” Mom said.
“What?!?!” “You should get God something too.”
“How?” replied Jake. “Maybe spend a little longer reading the bible or
doing something that glorifies him.” Mom said. “OK Mom” Jake said. “Good” Jake
left the room. “Mommy?” Suzie said. “Yes?” Mom replied. “Do you
think if I told my friend Amy about God would be a good father’s day gift to
God?” “Yes” Mom replied. “That would be great.”
Sunday Father’s day
After dinner the family sat down. “Here are
your gifts Dad!!!” Suzie said.
After the family gave Dad gifts Mom said “How
was your day everyone?” “Good” Said Jake “I read my bible a little longer.”
“That’s good.” “Guess what Mom and Dad?!?!” Suzie said. “What?” Mom and Dad
said. “Amy accepted Jesus as her Savior!!!’ “That’s great!!!!” Mom and
Dad said. “Hey Mom” Said Jake. I found a really good bible verse today.” “Let’s
hear it” Mom said.
The end
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is
the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they
contend with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5
